1:1 Technology Initiative Update -
As many of you know, Grass Lake Community Schools has embarked on a project to provide each of our Kindergarten through 12th grade students with a personal computing device (iPad or Chromebook) beginning some time in January, 2017, thanks to a large grant from the Thompson Foundation. A tri-fold brochure has been created to share more information about the project and to announce a flexible schedule of parent meetings that will support the process. Go to http://bit.ly/2bRTpmB for this brochure.

This second place finish secured an invite to the Michigan State competition on January 10th in Battle Creek! This is our second year and our first time getting to States! Jack Zaientz and Charles Brown have done a fantastic job leading these Grass Lake Middle Schoolers! We are so proud of both teams and their hard work. Good luck Grass Lake Gears and Spears!

GLMS Robotics Program is Growing
The Grass Lake Middle School robotics program is growing. "Like" our Facebook page and stay apprised of our activities. Due to the growing size of the program, the Grass Lake Middle School robotics club has split into two different FTC teams. Team 7360 is now known as "Gears and Spears." The new team, Team 9070 will pick a name this week. Go to http://on.fb.me/1DiIavO to see our Facebook page.

GLMS Robotics Team Wins Spring Competition
The Grass Lake Middle School Robotics club, Team 7360, competed in the FTC spring scrimmage competition on Saturday, May 3.  After coming in strong at 3rd overall in the qualifiers, Team Robo Yolo was chosen by the top seed team from East Jackson to form an alliance for the Finals.  Grass Lake graciously accepted, and together the alliance won first place.   Grass Lake also earned the esteemed ‘Inspire’ award for all of their hard work in helping other teams, working together to make sure that each attending Robo Yolo teammate was able to participate in the drive team during Saturday’s event, and their overall effort in multiple competitions their very first year.  We are really proud of how well the team did in this inaugural year and look forward to many more.  Way to go, ROBO YOLO!

"The Grass Lake team designed and fielded a Lego Mindstorms / Tetrix robot that could autonomously navigate to an infrared beacon, "slam dunking" blocks into raised baskets, and could be teleoperated by the team drivers to dunk more blocks, block opposing robots, and raise the competition flag at the end of the competition."

This is Team Robo Yolo’s first year of existence and they have been very competitive throughout the school year. Congratulations!
